Survey Result: Theater Graduates on Theater for Children and Young People in Lebanon

Within the framework of the Soundouk El Ferje – Magic Box project, a survey was conducted among Lebanese University theater graduates (classes of 2007 to 2011). The purpose of this survey was, on one hand, to compile their opinions regarding Theater for Children and Young People in Lebanon and, on the other hand, to identify young artists who would be interested in working in this field.

Moreover, the survey helped identify the main challenges facing the development of Theater for Children and Young People from the point of view of these graduates, and outline recommendations which could contribute to developing this Art form - based on their suggestions and an analysis of the survey's results.

ضمن إطار مشروع "صندوق الفرجة"  المموّل جزئيًّا من الاتحاد الأوروبي، قامت جمعية خيال للتربية والفنون بإجراء استبيان لخريجي قسم المسرح في الجامعة اللبنانية الذين تخرّجوا بين سنة 2007 و2011 بهدف رصد نظرتهم الى المسرح الذي يتوجّه للجمهور بين عمر الطفولة والمراهقة أي من سنة الى 17 سنة، ومن جهة أخرى بهدف رصد الطاقات الشبابية التي بإمكانها المشاركة في إنتاج الاعمال المسرحية الموجهة للأطفال واليافعين(ات). كما ويساهم الإستبيان في رصد أبرز التحديات التي تعترض تطوّر هذا المجال بنظر الخريجين(ات)، وفي استخراج التوصيات التي من شأنها أن تحسّن وضع المسرح الموجّه للأطفال واليافعين(ات) بناءً على اقتراحات الخريجين(ات) من جهة، وانطلاقاً من تحليل النتائج المتقاطعة من جهة أخرى.

"Tétine...Bye!" in Jezzine public library

On Dec 14, 2012, "Tétine...Bye!", a show for the very young directed by Kholoud Nasser, visited the Jezzine Public Library, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. The show was performed twice to around 100 kids who came from different villages.

It’s happening on November 2-3 at the Sunflower Theater – Tayyouneh

“Meetings Around Children’s Theater” is a 2-day platform putting the accent on the Children’s Theater and featuring 4 exciting new plays, as well as panels and discussions with professionals in Media, Education and Theater.

The platform will take place at the Sunflower Theater and will launch the performance phase of KHAYAL’s Magic Box - Soundouk El Ferje initiative to encourage more young Lebanese artists to get creatively involved in Children’s Theater. 

The platform’s inauguration will be held in the presence of HE Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, on November 2, at 7:00 p.m. and will feature the premiere of “Le Bal des Rêves” (Ball of Dreams) - by invitation only. 

“Le Bal des Rêves” is a joint Lebanese-French production by KHAYAL and Subito Presto about the power of dreams to unite people and reveal new horizons, especially in a society stagnated by new entertainment technologies.  (All audiences starting 8 years old, in French with some Arabic dialogs). The play will be staged until November 20 (Box office shows: Nov 9, 10, 16, 17 @ 7 pm)

"لقاءات صندوق الفرجة لمسرح الأطفال"

مسرحيات جديدة وحلقات نقاش

على مسرح دوار الشمس 

في  2 و3 تشرين الثاني، 2012

تتضمّن "لقاءات صندوق الفرجة لمسرح الأطفال" عروضًا أولى لأربع مسرحيات جديدة للأطفال من مختلف الأعمار (اعتباراً من عمر السنة)، بالإضافة إلى حوارات وحلقات نقاش مع إعلاميين وتربويّين وفنّانين وممثلين عن مؤسّسات ثقافية، وبمشاركة ممثّلين عن آسيتاج-السويد (المؤسسة العالمية لمسرح الأطفال والشباب)، جامعًا بذلك عدّة جهات معنية بمسرح الأطفال من أجل تبادل الأفكار حول كيفية تطوير هذا النوع الفني في لبنان وتفعيله.  

تشكّل هذه اللقاءات انطلاق المرحلة التطبيقية من مشروع "صندوق الفرجة" الذي يهدف إلى تشجيع الفنانين اللبنانيين الشباب على المشاركة الإبداعية في مسرح الأطفال.

تمّ ضمن هذا المشروع إنتاج ثلاث مسرحيات جديدة للأطفال لفئات عمرية مختلفة، من خلال منح أعطيت لفنانين شباب اختيرت مشاريعهم من قبل لجنة تحكيم متخصّصة. وتضمنت هذه المنح دعمًا مادّيا وإداريَا وتقنيَا. 

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تم إنتاج مسرحية تحت عنوان "متل الحلم"، وهي عمل مشترك لجمعية خيال وسوبيتو برستو (فرنسا) حول دورعالم الأحلام والذكريات في دوّامة الواقع الاستهلاكي.

A Sneak Peek at "Bal des Rêves" rehearsals in Lebanon - day 13!

Rehearsals for the Lebanese-French co-production "Bal des Rêves" are now taking place in Beirut, in the premises of Institut Français du Liban and the Sunflower Theater, and will be running until Aug 30.

"Le Bal des Rêves" - 2ème résidence / 11-16 juin 2012

"Bal des rêves" est une co-production franco-libanaise qui va être crée dans le cadre du projet Soundouk el ferje par Khayal et Subito Presto avec des artistes libanais et français et en collaboration avec des stagiaires libanais.

"Au sortir de la résidence de Janvier, plusieurs tâches avaient été remises aux deux équipes (France et Liban). Notamment, continuer la rédaction du spectacle, construire les personnages, commencer à élaborer quelques propositions scéniques. Et également tout le travail arasant qu’est la composition des dossiers de subventions, la création du dossier artistique ainsi que le dossier pédagogique.

Donc cette résidence pour mettre en commun tous les travaux, rediscuter pour préciser certains points. Prendre le temps d’améliorer le texte, le rendre plus juste, plus fidèle à nos aspirations communes, ne pas sortir de notre fil conducteur.

Et le travail se fit d’une façon très fluide. Malgré la distance et les différentes expériences que ce type de travail nous amène à faire, nous restons toujours ensemble. Et cela est une force.

Des rencontres aussi ont été réalisés (...)

Et puisque le grand-père, personnage principal de notre histoire, est un ancien cheminot libanais, nous avons eu le privilège de rencontrer Elias Maalouf, fondateur de l’association Train/Train Lebanon. Grand passionné de l’histoire des trains au Liban, il nous a fait entrer dans son univers et partagea avec nous cette histoire incroyable qui prit fin en 1976, lorsque la guerre éclata, et qui n’a jamais repris depuis. Parallèlement en France, depuis un an bientôt l’équipe est en étroite relation avec les cheminots d’Avignon et sa région. Ils sont un véritable soutien dans ce projet et nous offrent leur aide ainsi que leurs locaux pour diverses interventions, rencontre avec différents publics. Ainsi nous les avons mis en liens et ils se rencontreront courant Juillet.

Tant d’histoire encore à vivre, tant de rencontre encore à provoquer, à partager.

A présent, la dernière ligne droite avant la mise au plateau de toute cette année et demie de récoltes, de pérégrinations, de pertes, de doutes, de retrouvailles, d’espoirs …et de rêves.

Nous vous retrouverons donc du 9 au 31 Août 2012 à Beyrouth où nous commencerons les répétitions dans le théâtre Montaigne (prêté généreusement par l’Institut Français) et le théâtre Le Tournesol. Puis du 9 au 30 Septembre 2012 dans la Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs à Avignon.

Les premières dates étant déjà, j’ai le plaisir de vous informer que nous jouerons les 28, 29 et 30 Septembre dans la Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs. Puis en novembre pour une tournée au Liban.

Winners of the production awards announced!

Congratulations to the 3 winners of the Soundouk El Ferje production awards who were selected by the Jury: Hussein Nakhal, Kholoud Nasser, and Twin collective (Jad Hakawati - Rou'a Bzei3) and who will each receive a prize of 2500€ as well as administrative, artistic and technical support to produce a play for children. 

The plays shall be premiered in Beirut during the Children Theater Forum on 2-3 November, 2012, and afterwards will tour different Lebanese regions. 

The artists will soon meet with Walid Dakroub who will help them design and build the set of their plays, then they will begin their rehearsals. 

More updates about the plays will follow in the coming months, stay tuned!

Playwriting Workshop

Out of 13 applications received within the framework of the Soundouk el Ferje (Magic Box) project , 4 projects were shortlisted by the Jury to participate in a playwriting workshop which took place between June 4 and 9, 2012.

The participating artists were: Jad Hakawati and Rou'a Bzeih, Farah Wardani, Kholoud Nasser, Hussein Nakhal.

The workshop was conducted by Mia Tornqvist from Sweden who worked with the artists in individual and group sessions, helping them develop the dramatic structure of their children plays and write a first draft of the texts. The plays address children of different age groups between 2 and 18 years old. 

On the last day the participants read their drafts in front of each others, and received their colleagues' feedback.

*This workshop was organized in collaboration with ASSITEJ Sweden, with the support of the European Union and the Swedish Institute.

Call for Children’s Theater Projects

KHAYAL Association for Arts & Education invites young Lebanese artists aged between 20 and 35 years old to submit their Children’s Theater production projects within the “Soundouk El Ferje” (Magic Box) project, co-funded by the European Union. The deadline for application is April 27, 2012.

The call aims to encourage young artists to develop Children’s Theater in Lebanon by offering selected projects a Production Grant in the form of financing, management and communication support.

About “Soundouk El Ferje” (Magic Box)

Organized by KHAYAL (Lebanon), in collaboration with the Subito Presto company (France), and with the support of the European Union, the “Soundouk El Ferje” (Magic Box) project aims to get young Lebanese artists more creatively engaged in developing Children’s Theater. 3 groups of artists will benefit from the Production Grant and receive the necessary support and assistance to produce 3 plays for children of different age groups. A fourth group will also have the chance to participate as interns in a joint Lebanese-French theatrical production. At the end of this period, all 4 plays will be staged during a festival, giving the artists the chance to reach out to the public and other parties involved (schools, libraries, media, representatives from international festivals, etc.) The artists will then tour different Lebanese regions with their shows, thus gaining experience in performing inside venues not equipped for stage performances.

Production Grant for 3 Children’s Plays

Conditions for Application

Applicants: This Grant is intended for Lebanese artists aged between 20 and 35 years old, and interested in Children’s Theater. Applicants should not have directed more than 1 professional production for children.

Projects: Submitted Children’s Theater projects should target the following age groups: 1-4 years; 5-8 years; 9-12 years; and 13-18 years. The projects should necessitate minimum technical requirements and should not exceed 50 minutes in length. Production should be completed during the summer of 2012 and the plays should be ready to be performed between November and December 2012.

The Production Grant includes funding worth €2,500 for each play, a workshop on playwriting, professional follow-up by KHAYAL and a team of artists/facilitators, rehearsal space, logistic and administrative support (organizing performances, transporting for equipment and set, etc.), assistance for print materials and communication, technical support (set design, sound, light), as well as promoting the plays after December 2012 to bring in more revenue for the artists.

ملخص

"صندوق الفرجة" هو مشروع من تنظيم جمعية خيال (لبنان)بالتعاون مع سوبيتو برستو(فرنسا) ، يهدف إلى تشجيع الفنانين اللبنانيين الشباب للمشاركة الابداعية في تطوير مسرح الطفل. سوف تتلقّى ثلاث مجموعات من الفنانين الدعم اللازم لإنتاج ثلاثة عروض صغيرة للأطفال من مختلف الفئات العمرية، كما سيتم إشراك فنانين كمتدربين في مسرحية من انتاج مشترك لبناني-فرنسي. وبعد ذلك سينظم مهرجان تعرَض فيه المسرحيات الأربعة ويكون فرصة للفنانين للتواصل المباشر مع الجمهور ومختلف المؤسسات والأطراف المعنية (المدارس والمكتبات ووسائل الإعلام ، وممثلين عن مهرجانات دولية ، الخ). ثم سوف تتجول العروض في عدة مناطق لبنانية مما يتيح للمشاركين اكتساب خبرة في إدارة عروضهم في أماكن غير مجهزة.

الخلفية

تعتقد خيال أن إشراك الفنانين الشباب أمر ضروري لتطوير مسرح الطفل في لبنان وتحسين نوعيته من حيث الشكل والمضمون. ويمكن تعزيز هذه المشاركة من خلال تقديم فرص التعلم والدعم التقني والإداري والمادي لهؤلاء الفنانين.

من ناحية أخرى، يتزايد الطلب لدى المؤسسات الثقافية والتربوية والاجتماعية لتنظيم عروض للأطفال ذات نوعية عالية مما يشكل فرصةً لتشجيع هذا النوع من العروض. 

لهذا السبب ، قررت خيال تنظيم "صندوق الفرجة" الذي يوفّر دعمًا للإنتاج من جهة، وصلة وصل مع السوق المحلية والدولية من جهة أخرى.

هذا المشروع هو تكملة للنشاطات التي قام بها مسرح الدمى اللبناني على مدى 20 عامًا لتطوير مسرح الطفل في لبنان (18 مسرحية ، و 5 مهرجانات دولية ودورات تدريبية عدة) ، ويأتي في إطار برنامج "تقديم الدعم للفنانين الشباب" الذي أطلقته جمعية خيال في عام 2009 مع إنتاج "طير وعلّي يا بالون" من إخراج فؤاد يمين.

الأهداف

- زيادة الانخراط الإبداعي للفنانين الشباب اللبنانيين في مجال مسرح الطفل.

-المساهمة في خلق المزيد من فرص العمل للفنانين الشباب في مجال مسرح الطفل.

- المساهمة في ازدهار مسرح الطفل في لبنان من حيث الابتكار والتنوع والاعتراف به  كنوع فني كامل .

منح الانتاج ل 3 مسرحيات للأطفال

نوع العمل الذي يمكن التقدم به:

-         يجب أن يكون العمل المسرحي موجّهًا إلى إحدى الفئات العمرية التالية: 1- 4 سنوات، 5-8 سنوات، 9-12 سنة، 13 – 18 سنة (سوف تعطى الأولوية إلى الأعمال الموجهة إلى ما دون الرابعة وما فوق الإثني عشر)

-         من المستحسن أن تبنى فكرة العرض على بحث، كتاب، قصة، عمل تشكيلي، أو أن تتطرق إلى أحد المواضيع المعاصرة التي تهم الأطفال والخالية من الوعظ.

-         أن لا تتجاوز مدته 50 دقيقة

-         النوع المسرحي: تمثيل، رقص، ايماء، دمى، مسرح ظل، الخ

-         أن يكون بسيطًا من الناحية التقنية وقابلاً للتنقل بسهولة

-         ألا يتعدى عدد الممثلين الثلاثة

-         أن يأخذ بعين الاعتبار خصوصية الفئة العمرية المتوجه إليها

-         أن يتم تنفيذه بالكامل خلال صيف 2012 وأن يتم عرضه لمراتٍ عديدة ما بين تشرين الثاني وكانون الأول 2012 مع امكانية تمديد العروض في السنوات القادمة.

من يستطيع التقدم بطلب منحة انتاج:

-         أي شخص مهتم بمسرح الأطفال ويتراوح عمره ما بين 20 و35 سنة

-         أن يكون لبنانيا

-         ألا يكون قد قام بإخراج أكثر من عمل واحد محترف للأطفال

-         على المتقدم بالطلب أن يكون إما الكاتب أو المخرج (أو فريق من الأشخاص يتضمن الكاتب أو المخرج)

-         أن يلتزم بالأوقات والمهل المحددة في رزنامة المشروع.

-         أن يكون قادرا على الالتزام وإدارة المشروع كاملا (في حال التقدم بالطلب من قبل فريق يجب تحديد شخص واحد يكون مسؤولا عن المشروع)

معايير اختيار المشاريع

-         درجة الابتكار في الموضوع المعالج والأسلوب

-         درجة الإلتزام والجدية

-         الرؤية التربوية

-         ارتكاز الفكرة على بحث أو كتاب إلخ

-         سوف تعطى الأولوية للأعمال الموجهة لما دون الرابعة وما فوق الإثني عشر

كيفية الاختيار

-         المرحلة الأولى: يتم فيها التأكد من أن كل الطلبات تستوفي الشروط المحددة أعلاه

-         المرحلة الثانية: يتم فيها اختيار أولي لعدد معين من المشاريع

-         المرحلة الثالثة: يطلب فيها من المتقدمين بالمشاريع التي اختيرت في المرحلة الثانية تقديم مشاريعهم أمام لجنة تحكيم مستعينين ببعض العناصر السمعية البصرية لدعم أفكارهم (صور، رسومات، موسيقى...)

-         المرحلة الرابعة: يتم فيها اختيار المشاريع الثلاثة وإعلان النتائج

الرزنامة المبدئية

-         15 آذار – 27 نيسان فترة تقديم الطلبات

-         الاسبوع الثاني من أيار: إعلان النتائج الأولية

-         الأسبوع الثالث من أيار: لجنة التحكيم

-         الأسبوع الرابع من أيار: إعلان النتائج النهائية

-         الأسبوع الأول من حزيران: ورشة عمل حول الكتابة المسرحية

-         تموز- أيلول: فترة الانتاج والتمارين

-         تشرين الأول: مهرجان لمسرح الأطفال تعرض فيه كل المسرحيات

-         تشرين الثاني – نهاية كانون الأول: عروض في بيروت والمناطق

ماذا تتضمن المنحة:

-         منحة مالية لكل عمل وقدرها 2500 يورو

-         ورشة عمل حول الكتابة المسرحية

-         متابعة فنية من قبل فريق عمل خيال وفنانين/مدربين

-         مكان للتمارين

-         دعم لوجستي وإداري (تنظيم العروض، تنقلات مع الديكور الى المناطق...)

-         دعم لانتاج المطبوعات والتواصل

-         دعم تقني (سينوغرافيا، صوت، إضاءة)

-         بالإضافة إلى تسويق للعروض بعد كانون الأول 2012 مما يعود بالمردود المادي على أصحاب المشروع

الوثائق الواجب تقديمها: (لا تقبل إلا الطلبات المكتملة)

-         طلب المنحة معبأ بالكامل 

-         سيرة ذاتية للمتقدم بالطلب وأعضاء الفريق (في حال التقدم بالطلب من قبل فريق)

-         نسخة عن الهوية

-         نماذج عن أعمال سابقة (صور، فيديو...) ترسل على قرص مدمج أو عبر الإنترنت

كيفية إرسال الطلبات:

بالإضافة إلى تسليم نسخة مطبوعة من الطلب والسير الذاتية  وصورة الهوية إلى مكتب خيال في مسرح دوار الشمس – الطيونة مرفقة بقرص مدمج عليه النماذج في حال تعثر إرسالها عبر الإنترنت.

لا ينظر بالطلبات التي تصل إلى المكتب والبريد الإلكتروني ما بعد منتصف الليل من 27 نيسان 2012

سوف تنظم جمعية خيال لقاءً لإعطاء المعلومات عن المنحة والإجابة على الأسئلة يوم السبت 7 نيسان  2012 عند الساعة الرابعة في مسرح دوار الشمس – الطيونة، يتضمن اللقاء دعوة لحضور مسرحية "فراس العطاس" من انتاج مسرح الدمى اللبناني.
